But on Thursday, December 15, Corynn's birthday FINALLY arrived and our little girl turned 3 years old!!

Her real present was outside - a lighthouse playhouse/playground! Created and built by Kevin over the past few months. (Not a surprise to Corynn as we'd watch the progress from inside nearly daily.)
We didn't have much planned during the day, but grandma Peters offered to take us out for lunch to wherever Corynn wanted to go. She chose Pizza Hut, of all places. So we invited aunt Renae and Myra as well, since we'd be in Hesston, and had a fun girls-only birthday lunch! Grandma even brought a present and cupcakes to the restaurant to make it a real "party."

After a fun afternoon with grandma, Kevin, Corynn and I hopped in the car and headed to Wichita for supper with friends. Turns out our friend Todd (who baby doll Todd is named after) shares a birthday with Corynn, and he, his wife, and some friends have started a tradition of eating out together on his birthday, and this year they invited us to join them. So we met them all at Sake Sushi and Japanese Steakhouse for some hibachi grilling fun!
Well, actually Corynn hated the hibachi grill and hid in Kevin's lap the entire time the chef was cooking our food. But as soon as the chef left our table, she came and sat by me and ate her food.

After supper it was off to the nearest Krispy Kreme for a free doughnut (also a tradition for Todd and friends)
We all stood and watched the doughnuts being made, fried, frosted and boxed for quite some time. Corynn especially enjoyed it and kept asking us to hold her so she could see everything!
After a great meal, a warm doughnut, and a fun evening with friends, Corynn's birth day came to an end!
But on Sunday, the presents and partying returned. We had all of our family over to our house to help us officially celebrate Corynn's 3rd birthday with a 3 o'clock train party.

Then after Corynn went to bed, I created the other two train cars (not nearly as impressive).
Corynn was pretty excited about her train cake when she woke up Sunday morning and saw the creation on the kitchen table. She even came running across the house to find me and said "Mommy, have you seen my pretty train cake in the kitchen?" Little did she know I was up far too late the night before working on it!
Corynn took everyone one-by-one to the kitchen as soon they arrived at our house to show off her train cake (much to my dismay), then becoming a little overwhelmed with the crowd of people at our house - even though they were all family - Corynn quietly and slowly opened up her pile of presents.
Opening up her new red tractor and trailer - for weeks before her birthday, Corynn had been asking for a tractor "just like [cousin] Sam's" for her birthday. So thanks to her Nickel aunts and uncles, this wish came true.
Excited to blow out her 3 birthday candles - except under the pressure of everyone watching, she couldn't do it, so mom and dad had to help extinguish the flames!
We had a great afternoon and evening celebrating our little girl's birthday with family and Corynn got a ton of great presents from everyone!
But our Sunday evening didn't end there. The youth from our church were presenting Joseph's view of the Christmas story at Night in the Barn, at a farm near Goessel; so we ate a quick supper and headed out there before the evening got too late. Corynn really enjoyed petting and seeing all the live animals last year, so we figured she would enjoy being there again even though she'd had a busy day. Thankfully she took a nap in the car on the way there and did enjoy the time at the farm.
