Busy Weekend

It was nonstop action for our family this weekend. Not only was it Goessel Threshing Days weekend (at which I played in and helped with the sand volleyball tournament), but Kevin also had a triathlon in Derby on Sunday.

So Saturday morning we headed to Goessel so I could play a few matches of volleyball during the first rounds of the tournament. Then we took a break from vb for the exciting Threshing Days parade down Main Street Goessel, KS.

We'd been talking about the parade all week at our house and Corynn seemed excited about it - except she requested that I bring along daddy's ear muffs because the fire truck sirens might be too loud - but when it came time for the actual parade, you couldn't tickle a smile out of her. It was serious business. I guess she was overwhelmed by all the people, tractors, trucks, and noises associated with the parade.

But eventually she did venture out of my arms to grab a few pieces of candy that landed nearby, and thanks to my cousin Luke, she left the parade with a frisbee and a half a zip lock bag of candy. Just enough for this little girl.

After the parade, it was back to the park for me to ref several volleyball games as well as play a couple more. Then I spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening reffing and helping as needed at the park, while Corynn hung out with grandma and papa Nickel around town.

Sunday morning we were up before the sun to head to Derby for Kevin's race. Because he won the race, we had to stick around for the awards ceremony which didn't happen til 11am (even though he crossed the finish line before 8am). So we had a lot of time to kill.

First we rested...

Got a little goofy in the stroller...

Did a cool-down run with daddy...

Tried out mommy's hat, daddy got his prizes, and then we headed home.

After some post-race afternoon naps it was back to Goessel so I could ref a few more games before the tournament ended that evening. Once again Corynn found herself at grandma and papa Nickel's house, enjoyed their pool and toys, and occasionally ventured over to the park for some fun on the slides and swings.

Corynn and her new friend Jenna helped push cousin Myra in the swing at the park while we cleaned up after the tournament!

It was a long hot weekend that I'm glad only comes once a year, yet I look forward to it every year as well!

The rest of the week - August 1-7 - was fairly uneventful compared to our weekend, except for the fact that our good friends Ryan and Christie from Seattle were in Kansas. We hadn't seen them for several years now, so it was GREAT to get together with them and catch up.

Kevin and Ryan met up Wednesday morning for a bike ride, then they both came back to our house and Ryan even spent the night here so we got to spend a lot of time with him.

Corynn took a liking to Ryan almost immediately - even though they had never met before - and they had a great time playing catch in the basement all afternoon!

That evening several storms moved through the area, and since Seattle isn't known for their thunderstorms, per Ryan's request we stood outside in the cooling air and watched the amazing lightening for almost half an hour.

Thursday morning we woke up early and met Ryan's wife Christie in Wichita for breakfast! I was so glad we had the opportunity to meet up with her too while they were in Kansas.

Just some more silliness with Todd in an oatmeal container!
