Favorite Things

I didn't take a lot of exciting pictures this week, but what I realized later is that I did capture a few photos of some of Corynn's favorite things to do this summer.

Kevin's cousin Monica has been home from college this summer and has been in charge of Corynn at the store one morning a week while I work at Living Rooms by Gayle. She has even gone so far as to check out loads of kids books from the library just for Corynn's entertainment. This week I caught them reading books together while snuggling on the couch. Corynn has had a great time with Monica this summer and I'm sure will miss her when she goes back to school in a couple weeks.

Since it's been SO hot and dry this summer, Kevin has spent a lot of time watering the pine and fruit trees we recently planted and Corynn has been his little sidekick. She always begs to help when she hears that "daddy is going to water trees." She grabs her watering can and hops into the back of the water tank trailer for a ride out to the edge of our property. This week Kevin let her ride up front and for a few moments she was actually driving the mower by herself.

Corynn has mastered her vertical jump this summer and loves to jump off of anything, often counting "1, 2, 3 JUMP!" Our fireplace mantel is probably her favorite place to leap off of, but the couch, basement steps, and any kind of step stool or bench are close seconds.

Any kind of marble game has become a favorite toy of Corynn's lately too. Thankfully both grandparents have wooden marble games like this, because we own no marbles at our house. She will sit and play with this game for very long periods of time, and sometimes drags it around the house to show us all how it works!

In other news, this week - July 25-31 - Corynn took her first shower! For some reason (perhaps because of all of our spray park experiences lately) she had the idea to take a shower, so I let her and she loved it! We put the plug in the drain so the tub begins to fill up while she showers, and then she has water in the bathtub to play in afterwards too!

We've been continuing to practice letter and numbers, particularly using the letters that spell CORYNN on the wall in her room. This week Corynn spelled her name for me without looking at those letters or me prompting her! The R and Y often trip her up, but she consistently recognizes C and O and can't forget the "N N" at the end!
