Memorial Day Fun

Monday was Memorial Day which signifies two traditions, as of the last few years - a girls get-together with my college modmates and our kids, and a backyard barbecue at our house in the evening.
Here are all the kiddos in attendance at our college reunion - Corynn, Emily, Brahm, Oliver & Lily, Noah & Levi
We all met at Tina's farm and I had a great time catching up with old friends (some of who live in the same county, yet I never see) and Corynn eventually had fun running around with some of the other kids too!

This was the 6th annual Memorial Day barbecue we hosted at our house, and the weather didn't disappoint us! It was hot, but tolerable; a little wind (as always), but no rain. Most of the family was there for at least part of the evening, except for uncle Kent, plus we invited our friends Devin and Julia who we hadn't seen for a couple months.
The kids seemed to enjoy the sand box and playground throughout the evening
Corynn got a few tennis lessons from different people, since (although we have a tennis court in our backyard) she doesn't see a lot of tennis playing time
Corynn mostly ran around rounding up the tennis balls while others played. At one point she was trying to carry 5 or 6 balls at one time and having some trouble, so I suggested she use her shirt to help carry them. I intended for her to fold up the bottom of her shirt and carry them in there, but she started stuffing them down the inside of her shirt which was far more humorous. You can't really tell in this photo that she has two balls stuck at the top of her shirt - which made us all laugh till we were crying - and her face in this photo makes it even funnier!
It's hard to believe, but by Friday it was cool enough to wear pants and long sleeves. Corynn parked herself by the windows to watch the rain outside and read Berenstain Bears books to Todd.

But by Saturday we were back in the pool enjoying the sunshine and heat!

On Sunday, after lunch at Jason and Renae's with both sides of their family, we took afternoon naps, ate a quick supper, and then headed to Harvey County East Lake so Kevin could get in a swim workout before the sun set. He had promised there were swings, plus we brought some sand toys, so we were sure to keep entertained during his hour or so swim session.
The swings did not disappoint!

We could even swing and keep an eye on daddy swimming - he's the dark streak in the water to the right of Corynn
Then we enjoyed filling all of our buckets with sand - as we watched an impressive thunderhead form in the distance
