On Tuesday we got together with Corynn's 2nd cousin Miles who was in the area from Chicago! They were finally old enough to enjoy playing together.
They especially enjoyed eating snacks together...
But also had fun playing hide and seek around the house...
It was great to catch up with Miles and his parents! We'll have to make this an annual event!
Friday was Christmas Eve which was a very busy day for us.
The day started off with very exciting news that our niece Sophia Abrahams had been born the night before (see additional post about Sophia below), so we stopped at the hospital briefly before going to Goessel for the Nickel family Christmas breakfast.
Even though Corynn wasn't able to meet her new cousin, she was still in a pretty good mood as we left Newton.
After a delicious breakfast we opened presents with our extended Nickel cousins and aunt and uncle who were joining us from Colorado. We got lots of great gifts and Corynn enjoyed playing with her new wooden birthday cupcakes with great-grandma Nickel and everyone else throughout the day.
With a little extra convincing from daddy, Corynn took a 2+ hour nap in the afternoon. Thank goodness because Corynn's excitement for the day was only half over.
On Christmas Eve evening, our church has a program put on by the children. Since Corynn is part of the 2-year-old Sunday school class, she too was involved in this program. Her class was supposed to go on stage and ring their bells to the song "Jingle, Jingle, Happy Bells." I was so nervous that Corynn would cry and I would have to stand on stage with her, or something else dramatic would happen with her. Thankfully she walked up on stage by herself and stayed there peacefully during the song. She didn't sing or even ring her bells, but I was so proud of her performance! See for yourself!
But the evening didn't end there. The Funk family always celebrates together after the Christmas Eve program, so we returned to grandpa and grandma Nickel's house after church for more food and fun!

We decided to open gifts as a family on Christmas Day morning before joining my parents at church. Corynn was thrilled to have more presents to open and got a Memory game and Goodnight Moon book from mommy and daddy.
After the Christmas Day church service we headed to my parent's house for our Peters' family Christmas gathering.
We always take an annual family picture before opening presents; this year we took it before eating a delicious lunch too.
Then we all race to change clothes and it's time for the presents (it's become a lot less of a race since we've grown up, but we still joke about it)!

Corynn picked out this froggy humidifier in the store for uncle Kent, so she had to go check it out once it was out of the box
Uncle Jason, in anticipation of his first child, practiced his swaddling skills on Corynn throughout the afternoon! Corynn loved the attention and cooperated with him quite well! See the whole process and lullaby below.
It was a very busy week of seeing friends, Christmas gatherings with family, and church services, but we wouldn't have traded it for anything else!
